Building Pads in North Alabama

A flat, solid pad for a house, shop, barn, poultry house or metal building. Organic material stripped out, fill brought in and shaped to the height and size on your plan.

Why a pad is more than a pile of dirt

A building is only as good as what is under it. Topsoil, roots and stumps left in a pad rot and settle, and that shows up later as cracks in a slab or doors that will not close. So the ground gets stripped down to something solid before any fill goes on.

From there it is about the right material, placed in layers and packed as it goes, not dumped all at once and hoped for the best. Most jobs also need a pad a little larger than the building, so there is room for forms and for water to drain away.

Bring us the plan, or we will ask for it

We need the building size, the finished height if you know it, and where it sits on the property. For a commercial building, a poultry house or anything engineered, the engineer or integrator sets the spec, and we build to that spec. If compaction testing is required, tell us up front so it is scheduled before the slab crew shows up.

North Alabama ground changes fast from one tract to the next. Red clay in the valleys holds water and needs drainage planned around it. Sandstone on the plateaus can stop a cut short. We look at what you have before we tell you how the pad gets built.

What moves the price

We quote every job on its own. These make the biggest difference.

How far off level

A few inches of fall across a pad is easy. Several feet of fall takes a real cut, a lot of fill, or both.

Fill needed

Every load of fill dirt or chert has a price and a haul distance. Good on site material can cut that down.

Rock and clay

Sandstone can limit a cut, and wet clay may have to dry or be replaced before fill goes on.

Clearing first

A wooded site adds clearing and stripping before any pad work can start.

Building Pads questions

How much does a building pad cost?

It comes down to the size of the pad, how far the ground is off level, and how many loads of fill it takes. Send the building size and a photo of the spot to (256) 735-3214, and we will take it from there.

How big should the pad be?

Larger than the building, so there is room for forms and drainage around the edges. Your builder or engineer may set the exact number.

Do you pack the fill?

Yes. Fill goes in layers and gets packed as it goes. If your job requires third party compaction testing, tell us up front so it can be scheduled.

Can you use the dirt already on my property?

Sometimes. Good dirt from a cut area can save you a lot of trucking. Topsoil and anything full of roots or trash does not belong under a building.

Can you build a poultry house pad?

Yes. Your integrator or engineer sets the size and grade. We clear, cut, fill and shape to that plan.

Do you pour the slab?

No. We build the pad and hand it off to your concrete crew or builder.

Where we do this work

We build pads across north Alabama from Cullman, on everything from plateau sandstone to Tennessee Valley red clay. See your town under service areas, or call (256) 735-3214 for a free estimate. Fill coming in? See material hauling.
